2 Peter
Introduction
Second Peter urges believers to grow in their knowledge of Jesus Christ and remain faithful to the apostolic message. The writer anticipates his death and leaves a reminder of the truth, warning that false teachers will distort both doctrine and conduct.
The letter stresses spiritual growth, the reliability of God’s revelation, and the certainty of Christ’s return. God’s patience offers time for repentance, while the promise of a new heaven and earth calls believers to holy living.

Growing in Godliness and Holding to the Truth
Read chapter 1 (AMP)God’s power provides what believers need for life and godliness. His promises call them away from corruption, and they must diligently add virtue, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love to their faith. (2 Peter 1:1–11).
Peter intends to keep reminding believers of these truths while he is alive, so they will remember them after his death. (2 Peter 1:12–15).
The apostolic message is grounded in eyewitness testimony, including Christ’s transfiguration. Prophetic Scripture deserves careful attention because its message came through people moved by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:16–21).
Chapter 2
Recognizing False Teachers and Their Judgment
Read chapter 2 (AMP)False teachers will introduce destructive teachings, deny the Master, and exploit others through greed. Examples of past judgment show that God can punish wickedness while rescuing the godly. (2 Peter 2:1–9).
These teachers are arrogant, immoral, and driven by greed. Like Balaam, they pursue gain rather than righteousness, harming those they influence. (2 Peter 2:10–16).
They promise freedom while remaining slaves of corruption. Peter warns of the grave danger of turning back to defilement after escaping it through the knowledge of Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 2:17–22).
Chapter 3
The Lord’s Return and Holy Living
Read chapter 3 (AMP)Peter reminds believers of the prophets and apostles. Scoffers deny Christ’s return, ignoring God’s past acts of creation and judgment and His word concerning judgment still to come. (2 Peter 3:1–7).
God is not slow in keeping His promise; His patience calls people to repentance. The day of the Lord will come unexpectedly, bringing judgment and the promised new heaven and earth where righteousness dwells. (2 Peter 3:8–13).
Believers must pursue peace and blameless living, recognize God’s patience as an opportunity for salvation, and avoid twisting Scripture. They should remain steadfast and grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 3:14–18).
