A summary of Chapter 6 of the Book of Galatians
Chapter 6 of Galatians
, according to the Amplified Classic
(AMPC) version, includes practical instructions about living a life
of love and responsibility, as well as a final defense of the Gospel
of grace.
Paul begins by advising the Galatians on how to deal with those
who are caught in any trespass. He says that those who are
spiritual should restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness,
each one looking to themselves, lest they too be tempted. He
further encourages them to bear each other's burdens, thus
fulfilling the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:1-2, AMPC:
Vs.1 “Brethren, if any person is overtaken in misconduct or sin of
any sort, you who are spiritual [who are responsive to and
controlled by the Spirit] should set him right and restore and
reinstate him, without any sense of superiority and with all
gentleness, keeping an attentive eye on yourself, lest you should
be tempted also.”
Vs.2 “Bear (endure, carry) one another’s burdens and
troublesome moral faults, and in this way fulfill and observe
perfectly the law of Christ (the Messiah) and complete what is
lacking [in your obedience to it]”.
Paul then exhorts them not to be deceived, for God is not
mocked, and whatever one sows, that will they also reap. He
encourages them to sow to the Spirit and not grow weary in
doing good, for in due season they will reap, if they do not give
up.
Galatians 6:7-9, AMPC:
Vs.7 "Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow
Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere
pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.) [He
inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God.] For
whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap.
Vs.8 “For he who sows to his own flesh (lower nature, sensuality) will
from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction, but he who sows
to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
Vs.9 “And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting
nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season
we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint”.
Finally, Paul reiterates that what counts is a new creation, not
circumcision or uncircumcision. He concludes with a benediction of
peace and mercy upon those who will follow this rule and upon the
Israel of God.
Galatians 6:15-16, AMPC:
Vs.15 “For neither is circumcision [now] of any importance, nor
uncircumcision, but [only] a new creation [the result of a new birth
and a new nature in Christ Jesus, the Messiah]”.
Vs.16 “Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule [who
discipline themselves and regulate their lives by this principle], even
upon the [true] Israel of God!”.
